The Gold Coast hinterland, also known as the "green behind the gold", is an area of rainforests, waterfalls, National Parks, scenic lookouts , guest lodges and some great walking trails. It is a very popular day trip destination for Gold Coast holiday makers. The countryside is rugged with narrow, steep and winding roads. Slow and careful driving is essential. Beechmont, Springbrook, Numinbah, Natural Bridge and Crystal Creek are just a few of the popular stops on the hinterland circuit. Whereas the accommodation on the coast is resorts and self contained apartments, the accommodation choices in the hinterland are more along the lines of a hotel or guest lodge with full dining facilities and shared common areas.
