Coolangatta On The Gold CoastThe southernmost gateway to the Gold Coast and located adjacent the border with New South Wales, Coolangatta is a very popular family holiday destination. The clean, golden sands, safe patrolled beaches for all ages, vibrant local atmosphere and close proximity to the Gold Coast hinterland all contribute to Coolangatta's popularity. Coolangatta is a perfect spot for just hanging out on the beach or taking a swim in the ocean, as well as being an excellent spot for lovers of the sand, sea and surf. Holiday accommodation choices are a mix of low rise and high rise with plenty of absolute beachfront location resorts and apartments. Some of the most appealing beaches on the Gold Coast can be found here, with bays and headlands that provide a contrast to the sweeping shoreline elsewhere on the coast. The prominent headland at Greenmount breaks up the rolling ocean swells and ensures small waves on the lee side that are perfect for children. Just a few minutes from the headland lies Rainbow Bay, a fabulous little protected beach that is a great favourite for family groups. One of the most popular of all the surfing spots on the Gold Coast is Duranbah. The main beach at Kirra is also one of the Gold Coast's popular surfing beaches, with sizeable off-shore breaks for experienced surfers and small inshore waves suitable for beginners. Coolangatta is a twin town, sharing a common metropolitan area with Tweed Heads which sits on the New South Wales side of the border. The Twin Towns Services Club is the leading centre for entertainment with gaming halls, entertainment stages, bars and restaurants.
